DOC STRONG ~ Guitar and Vocals

Doc Strong is the youngest member of a musical family. He started playing for tips at age twelve in local halls and began recording in studios as well as live broadcasts at age fourteen. He joined the United States Army Band Program at age eighteen and graduated top in his class at the U.S. Naval Academy of Music in Little Creeks Virginia. In 1981 he moved to Atlantic City where he played guitar behind such headliners as Bill Cosby, Joan Rivers, Merv Griffen, and, Red Skelton. In New York Doc played with Bernadette Peters and Broadway star Tommy Tune. He has sung with Johnny Mathis, Marilyn McCoo, and Andy Williams during his celebrated Christmas shows.

In 1986 he joined forces as lead singer and guitarist alongside the legendary guitar slinger Jimmy Thackery of the Nighthawks and traveled from Chicago to Texas and throughout much of the south playing road houses and juke joints with such notable bluesmen as John Hammond Jr., James Cotton, Cary Bell, Sonny Rhodes, and Johnny Neel (from the Allman brothers band). Doc continues to play his own blend of soul stiring blues, funk, and smokey blue-eyed R&B at home and throughout Europe.

Doc was a founding member of the 76 Sixers House band, playing at all the home games / special events promoting the team and the city of Philadelphia. He released his first CD titled “Faye’s Baby Boy” in 2005, and is currently working on a new CD. Here at home, Doc‘s most recent project is the Thursday Night Music Club, which is a weekly meeting of singer songwriters, local legendary musicians and up and coming artists, who gather and share in the process of creating music.
